The End of the Road

We have reached the end of Survivor 2022. The five remaining players are all down to one final pick.  So Saturday's winners will decide how the pot is split.  Here are the final picks:

Duke: Robert

Kansas: Chris, Pete, and Charlie

UNC: Patty

Down to 5

Grant exits with Houston.  Thanos' favorite number - 5 - folks remain.

Elite 8 picks

Sorry I'm late with the post - we were in Lex.  Here are the picks.  St. Peter's is set-up to cause mayhem in our bracket once again!

Duke: Patty

Ultimate Cinderella story?

If I had known it was freaking National Peacock day I never would have picked Purdue.  Four others wish they had known as well. There are 8 remaining right now with a tight Kansas game going and two other match-ups to come.  How many will survive come morning?

In the meantime, I will never again bet against the Peacocks.  Here's rooting for the ultimate Cinderella story!

Sweet Sixteen: Friday picks

Almost half of us are walking into the eye of the hurricane tonight cheering for Miami.  Purdue is a close second choice.  And with Jon picking against Miami, we are guaranteed to drop to at least 12 players tonight.

Here are the picks:

Iowa State: Jon R

Kansas: Patty

Miami: Grant, Chris, Amy, Pete, Robert, and Charlie

Purdue: Michael, Jenny, Brandon, K, and Al

UCLA: Amy *K's error*

Lucky 13 . . .

With Villanova's advance and Gonzaga's loss, we will head into tomorrow with 13 players.  The only question that remains is whether that final survivor will be Sue or Jenny.

Sweet Sixteen: Thursday picks

Seventeen of us head into tonight's games hoping to survive and advance.  At least one person will go home as we have Sue and Jenny going head to head on either side of the Duke/Texas Tech match up.  Jenny, it's not personal, but I'm rooting for Sue to survive 😉

Here are the picks:

Duke: Jenny

Gonzaga: James 2, Zack 2, and Bany

Texas Tech: Sue

Villanova: Grant, Chris, Amy, Patty, Michael, Pete, Robert, Brandon, Charlie, Jon R, K, and Al

Cougar attack

The Illini could not survive their Cougar attack and so we say goodbye to CJ, Travis, and Brett 1.  We are down to 26.

Second Round: Sunday picks

We started the day with 31 contestants. Or so I thought.  Megan, very honestly, admitted to being out by virtue of picking Arizona yesterday. And unless she can prove I missed her pick, Patty is eliminated for no selection by Noon today. So we are down to 29.  *Patty shared her pick of Purdue on Saturday.*

Wisconsin and Texas Tech are the favorites today.  Though picks are fairly spread out.  Updates as warranted.

Arizona: Grant and Bany

Auburn: Johnny

Duke: Pete, Charlie, and Jon R

Illinois: CJ, Travis, and Brett 1

Purdue: Amy and Zack 2 and Patty

Texas Tech: Chris, James 2, Michael, Robert, Jenny, Brandon, K, and Al

Villanova: Sue

Wisconson: Pat B1, BJ, Phil, Will H, Kennedy girls, Nick, Jon P, Perkins 2, and Terry

Pretty as a Peacock

And just like that St. Peter's has cut our numbers by 1/3.  It's too many names to type but 23 people just bowed out.  See you all next year.  Maybe next year your tournament (and Kentucky's) will last a little longer.

There are 31 people left standing right now . . . .

Volunteering to go home

Six folks just got Volunteered to go home - Lauren, Larry, Pete 2, Sarabeth, Brent 1 & 2.  Until next year guys . . .

I, for one, am just glad we didn't have to hear Rocky Top!

First #1 seed falls

What looked like a cakewalk turned into a battle but the Tar Heels hang onto send Baylor and two of our own packing.  Josh and Marlo - hope we see you next year!

Second round: Saturday picks

There are officially 64 survivors still playing for a winner's pot that is set at $872.  We only had 4 folks buy back in after losses yesterday.  That might be an all-time low.   Guess all the upsets have folks too nervous.  The picks today indicate some nerves as they have a lot of chalk with three top seeds and one two seed on the board.

Murray and Arkansas will send the largest numbers (23 and 19 respectively) home if they lose.  I'd say given the way things have gone at least one of those teams might just lose.  I, for one, am hoping the Peacocks do it again (as much as it pains me to say that) since I am sucking it up to cheer for the Razorbacks today.  Mama needs some money to pay her taxes! 😂

Here are the picks - updates as our numbers shrink during the day!

Arizona: Megan

Arkansas: Pat B1, Chris, Amy, Johnny, BJ, Michael, CJ, Pete 1, Kennedy girls, Nick, Brett 1, Brandon, Jon P, Perkins 1, Charlie, Bany, K, Jon R, and Brent 1

Baylor: Marlo and Josh

Gonzaga: Patty

Kansas: Grant, Sue, Zack 2, Phil, Will H, Robert, Bany and Al

Murray: Jackson, Ian, Pat B2, Britt 1 and 2, James, Casey, Eric 1, Terry, Deem, Britton 4, Greg, Mac, Zack 1, Herron, KT, PK, P McClure, Logan, Perkins 1, John P, John S, and David

Providence: James 2, Travis, Jenny, K, and Terry

Purdue: Patty    *Purdue plays tomorrow.

Tennessee: Lauren, Larry, Pete 2, Sarabeth, Brent 1 and 2

UCLA: Perkins 2

Washed away with the tide

Five of our number have to decide whether we are buying back in after being washed out with Crimson Tide.  Two more face the same decision after Virginia Tech's loss.  In the meantime, two folks - Chad and Britton 1 are both officially done after doing the really dumb with their buy-back picks.

First Round: Friday picks

Thursday got us off to a wild start with 16 players officially OUT! Another 16 did the dumb. Today is the last chance to buy back in if you lose (as long as that entry hasn't already done the dumb).  The DDs bring our winner's pot to $848 and our charity pot is at $222 (thank you to a couple of folks who pitched in a little extra).

Picks are below.  The only question now is how Freaky will this Friday be?  Illinois, Tex Tech and Purdue losses would definitely cut our numbers!

Alabama: Lauren 2, Clay 1, Perkins 1, and K

Auburn: Pete 1 and Brandon

Davidson: Britton 1, Bany, and Theo

Duke: Boozer, Britton 4, Kennedy girls, KT, and P McClure

Houston: Ian, Pat B2, Casey, Johnny, Patty, Michael, Jon P, Charlie, and Jon R

Illinois: Pat B1, Lauren 1, Eric 1, BJ, Greg, Britt 1 and 2, Phil, Herron, Al, Josh, Robert, Jenny, Brandon, Terry, David 1, and Brent 3

Loyola: Britton 1

LSU: Eric 2, Brian, David 2, Brent 1, and Brent 3

Michigan State: Will H and Nick

Ohio State: James 1

Purdue: Grant, Eric 2, Terry, Zack 1, Marlo, Pete 2, Travis, Brett 1, Logan, and Sarabeth and James 1

TCU: Brian

Texas: Perkins 2 and Brent 2

Texas Tech: Jackson, Amy, Terry, Deem, Zack 2, Larry, Nick, Brett 1, John P, John S, Theo, and Megan

USC: Chad

VA Tech: Tony, Mandy, and Chad

Villanova: James 2, Zack 2, and CJ

Wisconsin: Casey, Eric 1, Greg, Sue, Mac, KT, and PK

*Updated at 2:31 to fix omission of James 1's DD*

Lots of people went out

I can't do cute right now. The following people are "out" pending doing the dumb: Britton 1, 2, 3, Greg, Zack 2, James 1, John D, Chris G, Laura, Mesplay, Brent 3, Eric 2, Adam, Chad and Britton 5.

Their Spidey senses were NOT working

Richmond potentially knocked out 10 of our Survivors.  Casey, Terry D, Vickie, Tiki, Brett 2, Brandon, Will P, Brian, Eric 1, and KT have some decisions to make and possibly loose change to dig up to do the dumb.

And just like that Clay2 makes a speedy exit with the Jack Rabbits loss . . .

A Very Unlucky Leprechaun

Unless he buys back in with one - or both - entries, we say goodbye to Adam Voth with the first game.

On a side note: Who the heck knew this creepy "family adventure" existed?!

First Round: Thursday Picks

There are 90 of us tipping-off Danvegas 14.0!  That is a winner's pot of $720 and a charity pot of $180 plus an additional $10 from one nice leprechaun. Both are sure to go up as folks buy back in . .  .

As you know, if the Luck O' the Irish is not with you today you can double down - aka "Do the Dumb" - and buy back in for tomorrow.  It's $10 plus TWO picks from tomorrow's games.

I think I have everyone's picks.  If you notice an error just text/email proof of the correct pick and I will fix it.  Updates here as warranted.

Good luck!

2022 Danvegas Survivor - Masks optional

It's year number 14 and we are set to have a return to regular NCAA play with fans and multiple cities and what I'm sure will be plenty of upsets.  As in years, past feel free to share with any friends or family you think may be interested.  The more the merrier!

Whether you've been with us all 14 years, or you're a newcomer - please read the rules below!

Also, please pay attention to the payment deadline! I've been a little soft on this in the past but, frankly, I'm tired of losing money on this endeavor so I'm going to stop being nice. If you have not paid your entry fee and/or double-down fees by the tip of the Sweet Sixteen then you will be eliminated AND you will not be allowed to participate next year unless your money is in before the first pick is due.  There are a couple of repeat players on probation this year who will not be allowed to play unless their money is in with their first pick.  I will let you know if this is you when you enter.

Speaking of paying up - couple of notes on that front.  I am trying to work out a Venmo account. My cell is currently linked to our work account and liberating that number is proving harder than breaking into Fort Knox.  If I get a Venmo I will share that info ASAP.  For those who have used PayPal in the past note I have changed my account email to keep this money separate from personal PP where monthly charges get deducted.

Finally, this year's charity will be Save the Children to support their efforts to help children displaced and orphaned by the crisis in Ukraine.

The Rules

The Survivor Pool is a twist on the classic NCAA bracket challenge. Pick a winner each round, win some money and help out the kiddos at the same time!

How to Play:
  • Entry fee is $10 - $8 goes to the winner's pot, $2 goes to the charity pot.  Additional charitable donations are accepted. Entry fee and first day's pick must be in by NOON, March 17! Anyone who hasn't paid by tip of the Sweet Sixteen will be disqualified AND will not be allowed to play next year unless money is in BEFORE first pick is due.
  • Pick one winner from each day's games for the first six days of the tournament (excluding play-in games).  If your team wins, then you rinse and repeat for the next day's games. If your team loses you are out. Those surviving until the Elite Eight will then start picking one team per ROUND. So one pick from any Elite Eight games, regardless of day. Then one Final Four team and, of course, the champion. (A full listing of picks is below.)
  • Here's the kicker: You can only pick a team ONE TIME per entry! If you pick Kansas in the second round and they make it to the final game, you cannot pick them again. If you do not have a viable pick for a round, then you are out!
  • Each day's picks are due by NOON! Entries may be submitted via email or text. If you have multiple entries please clearly state which team goes with which pick. (Krista1 - Kentucky; Krista 2 - Gonzaga)
  • The last survivor standing takes home the winner's pot.  If there is more than one person left standing then the pot will be split evenly.
  • The charity gets 20% of the pot - this year that charity is Save the Children.
  • Multiple entries are allowed.  However, there is no frequent shopper discount - $10 to play. Period.
  • The "I did the dumb" reset button: If you lose in the first round (Thursday or Friday games - March 17 or 18) you may buy back in ONCE per entry for another $10, but you must pick TWO teams from the next day's games and both must win for you to advance.

How to Enter:
Entries may be emailed or texted to Krista. Entry fees should be submitted electronically if at all possible via PayPal (and hopefully Venmo).  If your money is not in by tip of the first Sweet Sixteen game on Saturday, March 24 you will be eliminated!

2021 Submission deadlines:
First Round/Friday pick: Noon, March 17
First Round/Saturday pick: Noon, March 18
Second Round/Sunday pick: Noon, March 19
Second Round/Monday pick: Noon, March 20
Sweet Sixteen/Saturday pick: Noon, March 24
Sweet Sixteen/Sunday pick: Noon, March 25
Elite Eight pick: Noon, March 26
Final Four pick: Noon, April 2
Championship pick: Noon, April 4

If you feel like jinxing yourself, you may submit multiple days worth of picks at once but you are responsible for clearly labeling which pick goes with which day.  Pool administrator (aka Krista) is not responsible for confused submissions! Likewise, if you pick a team you've already picked and do not notice before tip of the game you are out!

Results:
Each day's picks and results will be posted here. In order to make my life easier - I will NOT be emailing a full list of picks and results.  I will do my best to upload each day's picks by 1:00 PM. However, I do have an actual job so this may not always happen.

Players are responsible for checking the posts here to ensure that selections are accurately recorded before halftime of the day's first game (or roughly 90 minutes after posting). Any errors not reported (and documented) within 90 minutes of the list going live will not be changed. Periodic updates of those moving on or being eliminated will also be posted here.

Cheers and Good Luck!
